Everything You Need to Run Deposits Properly
Configured where you already work: a WooCommerce settings tab, a tab on the product, and a panel on the order.
Per-product deposits
Set a fixed amount or a percentage of the price on any product, from its own Security Deposit tab. Only the products that need protecting carry one.
One deposit per order
Prefer a single deposit covering the whole basket? Charge one per-order deposit instead, as a flat fee or a percentage of the qualifying items.
Multiply by quantity
Renting three cameras rather than one? Take three deposits. A single checkbox, no maths and no manual adjustment.
Per-variation overrides
The compact hatchback and the convertible do not carry the same risk, so they need not carry the same deposit. Override any variation independently.
Automatic refunds
Deposits go back the moment an order is marked complete. Nobody has to remember, and no honest customer has to ask twice.
Inspection grace period
Need to check the item over first? Delay the automatic refund by up to 30 days, then let it run on its own.
One-click manual refunds
Refund a single deposit or every deposit on an order, straight from the order screen, whenever you decide the item has passed inspection.
Money back the way it came
Where the payment gateway supports refunds, the deposit returns to the original card or account. Not a coupon, not store credit.
Keep only what damage costs

Set it as a percentage of the rental value so a weekend in a city car and a fortnight on a touring bike are protected proportionally, and use variation overrides so each vehicle class carries its own figure. The inspection delay gives you time to walk the bodywork before the money goes back.

Cameras, drones, lenses, laptops and AV kit have replacement costs far above their daily rate, and they usually go out several units at a time. Multiply by quantity so a five-lens shoot carries five deposits, and set fixed amounts per item so the figure matches what that specific piece of kit actually costs to replace.

Baby Equipment Rentals
Parents renting a stroller, cot or car seat are price-sensitive and often booking from abroad before a trip, so a heavy deposit loses the sale. Keep individual deposits small and friendly, or switch to a single per-order deposit so a family hiring five items for a fortnight sees one modest, understandable figure rather than five separate charges.

Clothing & Fashion Rentals
A designer gown, a wedding suit or a stage costume can be ruined in one evening, and the damage is rarely visible until it has been cleaned. Set the deposit as a percentage of retail value so your most expensive pieces are protected the most, and use the grace period to hold the deposit until the garment is back from the cleaners and inspected.
