Sales Igniter’s Shopify rental app is built from what rental businesses actually ask for. Nearly every feature below started as a request. This page is the public record: what is already built, what is coming, what we are weighing up, and a form to add yours.
It covers Rentals & Bookings for Shopify and its add-on apps. The apps are coming soon to the Shopify App Store, and the page has a waitlist. Running WordPress or Magento instead? The WooCommerce plugin and the Magento 2 extension each have their own page, on their own release cycle.

Already built
Every item here is already built into the Shopify rental app or one of its add-on apps. The app is coming soon to the Shopify App Store, so these have no version numbers yet. The Shopify rental app page has the full feature list. Open a card to read what the feature does.
A booking calendar on the product page
Customers pick dates on a calendar that shows what is free, the units left and the price for each day.
Read moreShow less
The calendar can sit in line, in a popup or as separate date pickers. The Calendar Styler sets four styles, the accent colour, the corner radius, the labels and a legend, with a live preview. A pricing card lists every rate, and a sticky booking bar keeps the quantity and the Reserve button in view. The rental total shows before the customer adds to cart, and the dates they chose are remembered across pages.
The same product can be rented or bought, and variants each have their own stock and rates. Buy it now is hidden on rental products, so every rental goes through the dates.
Rent by the day, the hour or a set departure
Days, days and times, fixed lengths such as 4 hours, or set departures for tours and classes, with guests and party size.
Read moreShow less
Start times can be grouped into morning, afternoon and evening. Set departures have their own dates, repeats and prices. Guests and party size are supported, with guest types and per-guest fees for children, infants and pets. Ongoing and fixed-term rentals can be billed each period by invoice.
Rental prices that fit how you charge
Price tables, seasonal rules and length-based rules, with the price for each day shown in the calendar.

Fixed, daily and hourly rates. Price tables for 4 hours, 1 day, 1 week and 1 month, with add-on periods. Seasonal rules by date, with repeats. Rules by rental length. A headline price, a price period and your own price text. You choose whether the return day is charged, for the whole store or per product. Shopify discount codes work on rentals, and rental prices convert with Shopify Markets.
The price and dates are checked again at Shopify checkout
A rental cannot be changed on the way to checkout. A Shopify Function checks every rental line.

When a rental goes in the cart, the price and dates are signed. At checkout, a Shopify Function checks each rental line again and stops one whose price, quantity or dates were changed. Your payment settings, taxes and order emails stay as they are. You do not need Shopify Plus.
Stock counted for every date
Units are counted day by day, with turnaround time, closed days, and minimum and maximum lengths.

Turnaround time before and after each rental, in hours or days. Opening hours, closed days and holidays, with repeats and reasons. A lead time before the first bookable day, and how far ahead customers can book. Overbooking can be allowed per product. Two customers booking at the same moment cannot double book, and an order that beats the stock is flagged, with a workflow to sort it out. You can block dates by hand, and staff can book sold-out dates on purpose, with a warning and a note on the order.
Stock per location, and moving stock between them
Rent from more than one Shopify location. Each location keeps its own stock and the customer chooses where to pick up.
Read moreShow less
Location rules and prices, shortage alerts, and moving stock between locations: plan it, send it and receive it. One-way rentals let a customer return to another location, with a fee per route.
Delivery, pick-up or post
Customers choose how they get it before they pick dates. Each way has its own time in transit, order cut-off and hand-over days.
Read moreShow less
Delivery areas, time slots with a limit on stops and a surcharge, and the delivery fee charged in the cart. A Schedule page for deliveries, and a day sheet email for each location. Customers can change their delivery or pick-up slot from their account. For posted rentals, a shipping rate can have its own days in the post, and a rate that cannot make the dates is hidden at checkout.
Pay part now, the rest before the rental starts
Offer a part payment at checkout, with the balance due a set number of days before the rental starts.

A Balances page and balance reminders show what customers still owe, with a warning at the desk until it is paid.
Late fees for late returns
A grace period, a cap and staff review. Paid by link or taken from the deposit.

Turn it on under Settings, Late fees. The fee can be the product's own rental price for the extra time, a fixed rate per hour or day, or a percent of the rental, with an optional one-off late return fee. Staff set the Returned at time when they check a rental in, and the fee waits for review. Accept adds it to the customer's order with a pay link, or keeps it from the security deposit. The late fee policy shows on the product page, in the cart and on the order pages.
Rental kits
Rent several items as one, like a party kit. The calendar offers only the days when every item is free.
The Send & Return desk
See what goes out and comes back today. Check rentals out and in with a barcode scanner.

The Send desk shows what goes out today, what is overdue and what is due in the next 7 days. The Return desk takes notes on the condition of what comes back. Check out or check in a whole batch at once. Pick lists as CSV or PDF, a history with the name of the staff member, and sent and returned emails to the customer.
Serial numbers for every unit
Track each unit by serial: pick it at check-out, scan it back in and see its history.

Serial numbers per product with status, cost, date acquired and notes. QR and barcode label sheets. A history and last movement for each serial, and a usage report by serial.
Maintenance tickets for your stock

Tickets hold the unit back from the calendar. Service schedules, checklists and inspections, a check-out guard, costs for parts and labour, damage charges to the customer, a maintenance dashboard and reports. It is part of the core app and can be turned off in Settings.
Reminders, and My rentals in the customer account
Pick-up, return and overdue reminder emails, and a page where customers see their rentals and extend them.

What customers are asking for
Requests sent through the form below, in the store owner's own words, once we have read and approved them. Voting opens when the apps launch, and votes will decide the order.
The first requests are being reviewed. Yours could be the first one listed. Send it below.
Coming, and on the table
Planned means it is built, or being built, and comes with the apps. Under consideration means it is a candidate, not a commitment. There is no date on any of them. Demand decides the order: tell us on the form which ones would change how you work, and they move up.
Staff and resources
Give each job the people and equipment it needs: guides, drivers, technicians, boats, vans and rooms.

Staff members with skills, working hours and time off. Resources with seats, such as a boat or a van, which can use the stock of a rental product. A product can say what it needs, for example a guide for every 8 guests and a boat that seats the party. A board shows who is on which job, a My schedule page shows each person their day, and conflicts are flagged. This is built and comes with the core app. It tracks and warns; it does not refuse a booking for a missing guide unless you choose that.

Rental settings can already be exported and imported as a CSV. This would add importing bookings, serial numbers, locations, prices, blocked dates and more, an import from BookThatApp through its API, and an import from Shopify orders for stores that took rentals as plain orders. Nothing would be imported without a preview first.
0Voting opens at launchBack up and export all your rental data
One export of everything, and a way to undo an import.

Today you can export bookings as CSV and ICS and rental settings as CSV. This would cover the rest, with an import history.

The delivery and pick-up settings already give each way its own transit time, order cut-off and hand-over days. This would add a planner for the day with several vans, a map and a timeline, a time window for the customer on the day, a Running late message, and a driver app that works on a phone, even offline.

Request a feature
Tell us what you are trying to do and how you handle it today. Concrete beats general: the requests that get built are the ones where we can picture the counter, the van or the spreadsheet you are replacing. Say which theme you use if it matters. We read every one and reply, and approved requests are listed above in your own words.
Shopify rental app questions
Is the Shopify rental app available yet?
Not yet. It is coming soon to the Shopify App Store, and you can join the waitlist on the Rentals & Bookings for Shopify page to be told when it launches. The list above shows what is already built and what comes next. We give no dates.
Does Shopify have a rental system built in?
No. Shopify sells a product once and has no idea of a hire period, availability across dates or a return step. Renting is added with an app. Ours puts a booking calendar on your product pages, counts stock for every date, and checks the rental price and dates again at Shopify checkout, so your payment settings, taxes and order emails stay as they are. You do not need Shopify Plus.
Which apps does this page cover?
The Rentals & Bookings core app and the apps that go with it: Rental Contracts, Security Deposits, Custom Fields, and Request a Quote & Hide Price. Each add-on app is installed on its own. The card on each request says which app it belongs to.
How do I request a feature, and what happens next?
Use the form on this page and leave the platform set to Shopify. We read every request and reply. Requests we approve for listing appear under "What customers are asking for" with a status that changes as it moves through under consideration, planned and built. Nothing is published automatically.
Who can vote, and how do votes count?
Voting opens when the apps launch. Then anyone logged in with a Sales Igniter account that holds a licence for the Shopify apps can vote once per request. Votes order the open requests on this page and are the main input when we plan a release. Until then, the form is the way to tell us what you need.
Is the Shopify roadmap the same as the WooCommerce and Magento ones?
No. They are separate products on separate release cycles, so a feature can land on one long before another, and some only make sense on one of them. The other two have their own pages: WordPress / WooCommerce and Magento 2.
