Built for Rental Stores, Not Bolted Onto a Booking Form
Most booking plugins treat a product as one bookable thing. A rental store has five of them, needs a day to clean each one, closes on Sundays, and cannot afford a cached product page that sells a day that is already gone.
A typical booking plugin
- ✕ One product = one bookable item. Stock quantity is ignored.
- ✕ Two blank date fields, then an error message after submit.
- ✕ A cached product page still shows days that sold out an hour ago.
- ✕ The price shows up in the cart, after the customer has committed.
- ✕ The “free” version is a trial that nags or expires.
Rentals & Bookings Lite
- ✓ Stock 5 means five hires on the same dates; buffers and closed days apply per unit.
- ✓ A guided picker, one step at a time, with booked hours greyed out.
- ✓ Availability is refetched after the page loads, so WP Rocket, LiteSpeed and Cloudflare cannot oversell.
- ✓ The total appears the moment the last step is done, from the same maths the checkout uses.
- ✓ Nothing expires and there is no licence key. Regular-only features are simply greyed out with an Upgrade button.
Everything a Rental Store Needs to Take Its First Booking
Every feature below works with no time limit. This is the base plugin the paid editions run on, not a cut-down demo.
Popup Range Picker
Pick-up date, pick-up time, return date, return time, one step at a time, with a progress row and the rental total before the cart.
Date or date-and-time rentals
Hourly slots grouped by morning, afternoon and evening. Hours already booked, and the turnaround after them, are greyed out in the time grid.
Quantity-based inventory
A product with stock 5 can be hired five times on the same dates; the sixth customer sees it sold out. Availability is rebuilt from the bookings table on every request.
Turnover, closed days, store rules
Buffers before and after every hire, store hours, holidays with a reason customers can read, minimum and maximum length, and how far ahead they may book.
Fixed, daily and hourly rates
A pricing card under the title with a From price and the rate table. Prices flow through the cart, checkout, order and emails as normal WooCommerce line items.
Calendar Styler
Four looks (Airy, Card, Bold, Classic), your accent colour and corner radius, slot interval, editable labels, price per day and units left inside each day.
Rentals menu in wp-admin
A Bookings list (upcoming, in progress, past), a Bookings Calendar with day counts of what goes out and comes back, a one-week Inventory Report and manual bookings for phone and walk-in customers.
Edit dates on the order
Two calendars on the WooCommerce order screen grey out the days other orders have sold out, re-check availability and re-price the line, with a note on the order.
Reminders and exports
Return reminder and overdue emails on a schedule you set, CSV and ICS calendar export, and the rental dates on every order, in My Account and in the order emails.
One Rentals Menu in wp-admin
Every hire, what is going out and what is coming back, a week of availability per product, and a button for the phone customer who wants the kayak on Saturday.

Bookings Calendar
A month view with day counts of what is going out and what is coming back.
One-week Inventory Report
Availability per product per day, with closed-day shading and a totals row. Export as CSV.
Manual bookings
Take a phone or walk-in booking from the admin, against the same stock and the same rules.
Stock 5 means five hires on the same dates
Every unit is booked separately. The calendar only says “sold out” when all five are out on a day, and buffers and closed days are applied to each unit, not the whole product.
Bookings are the source of truth
Availability is rebuilt from the bookings table on every read. A refund frees the unit at once; there is no cached availability blob to drift.
Turnover per unit
Cleaning, charging, inspection: the unit that comes back Monday is not offered for Monday morning.
Closed days customers understand
A hire can run through Sunday but cannot start or end on it, and the blocked day shows the reason.
Sat 12 is sold out only because all five units are out or in turnover. Sunday is closed, so nothing starts or ends there, but Order #1047 runs straight through it.
From Install to First Booking in Four Steps
No wizard, no account, no licence key. Two free plugins and a checkbox on the product.
Install the two free requirements
WooCommerce and Secure Custom Fields. Skip the second and the plugin shows a one-click install link.
Install Rentals & Bookings Lite
Upload the zip from the email, activate, and a Rentals menu appears under Products.
Make a product rentable
Open the Rentals & Bookings tab on the product, switch on Enable Booking, choose Date or Date and Time, enter a rate.
Take the first booking
The customer picks dates in the popup, pays at the normal checkout, and the booking is stored against your stock.
Store hours, closed days and buffers live under Rentals › Settings; the calendar look is under the Calendar Styler tab.
Lite vs Regular vs Pro
Regular is an add-on that installs next to Lite, and Pro adds four more add-ons on top of Regular. Your products, settings and bookings stay exactly where they are when you upgrade.

Rental Businesses That Run on Lite
Anything hired out by the day or by the hour, in quantities of one or fifty. Tours and classes with fixed departure dates need the Regular edition.
Equipment & tool hire
A turnover buffer keeps the drill off the calendar until it has been inspected.
Camera & AV rental
Hourly slots for a half-day shoot, a daily rate for the week away.
Bikes & e-bikes
Store hours and closed days match the shop; charging time is the buffer.
Party & event rental
Stock 40 chairs means forty hires on the same weekend, not one.
Boats, kayaks & paddleboards
Morning, afternoon and evening slots, and weather closures with a reason.
Costumes & formal wear
A cleaning buffer between renters and a minimum length for the weekend.
Camping & outdoor gear
Start-date padding so an order placed tonight cannot pick up at 7 am tomorrow.
Medical & mobility equipment
Weekly hires that run through closed days, with return reminders on a schedule.
Frequently Asked
Is Lite a trial?
No. Nothing in Lite expires and there is no licence key. The features listed under “Regular adds” are greyed out in the admin with an Upgrade button; everything else is fully working, with no time limit.
Do I need WooCommerce?
Yes. The plugin is a WooCommerce extension, so it needs WooCommerce installed and active. That is deliberate: your payment gateways, taxes, shipping, coupons and customer accounts keep working, and rentals sit in the same orders as anything else you sell.
Why does it need Secure Custom Fields?
The product fields and the settings screens are built on the field framework that the free Secure Custom Fields plugin provides, so Lite does not ship a copy of its own. Install it once and the rentals plugin picks it up; if it is missing, Lite shows a one-click install link and waits.
Can several customers rent the same product on the same dates?
Yes, up to the stock quantity. A product with stock 5 can be rented five times over the same dates, and the sixth customer sees it sold out for those days. Availability is worked out from the bookings table on every request, so two customers cannot both take the last unit.
Do I keep my data when I upgrade to Regular?
Yes. Regular is an add-on that installs next to Lite and requires it. Lite and Regular share the same product fields, settings and bookings table, so upgrading adds features; it does not migrate anything. Lite stays installed and active, Regular runs on top of it.
Does it work with my theme and my page cache?
The calendar is rendered through WooCommerce’s own product page hooks and styled by the Calendar Styler, so it fits any theme that uses the standard WooCommerce product template, block themes included. Product pages served from a page cache (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed, Cloudflare and friends) refresh their availability in the background after the page loads, so a cached page cannot offer a day that sold out an hour ago.
