You rent camera bodies, PA systems, breaker hammers or travel cots. Every order has a start date, an end date, a quantity, and a physical object that has to come back. The Booking & Appointment Plugin for WooCommerce from Tyche Softwares is one of the most established booking plugins on the platform, and plenty of rental businesses start with it. The question this comparison answers is where it stops being a scheduling tool and starts being a rental system — and whether Sales Igniter is the better Tyche Booking & Appointment alternative for your kind of hire.
Disclosure: this comparison is published by Sales Igniter, the maker of one of the two products. It is documentation-based — every claim is taken from each vendor’s own pricing page, docs or changelog, linked as we go, and no hands-on test results are included. Researched on 7 September 2026 against Tyche Booking & Appointment v8.6.0 (4 August 2026) and Sales Igniter Bookings & Tours 1.0.60 (6 September 2026). Where a capability is not in the documentation we say “not verified” rather than “not supported”, and we hold our own product to the same rule.
Quick verdict: Tyche Softwares vs Sales Igniter for rentals
Consider Sales Igniter if you need the warehouse half of renting: serial numbers and barcodes on individual units, a send and return desk, refundable security deposits, a signed rental agreement at checkout, and a day-by-day inventory report. It is a one-time purchase with the full source code, so it also suits businesses that want to own their stack.
Consider Tyche Booking & Appointment if your bookings are closer to appointments than to equipment hire — staff or room resources, time-slot scheduling, two-way Google Calendar sync, Zoom links, customers in many time zones, multivendor marketplaces — or if you run several stores on one licence and prefer an annual subscription with a 30-day refund guarantee.
Comparison table: what each plugin documents
“Base” means the entry licence. Tyche sells three tiers — Starter, Business and Enterprise — and moves several rental-relevant functions into the higher two. Sales Igniter sells Regular and Pro, and Pro is where deposits, contracts and subscriptions live.

Three rental scenarios, followed through both plugins
These are hypothetical examples built from the documentation, not test results. For each we note what a real trial would need to confirm.
Scenario 1: a camera hire house with four identical cinema bodies
Situation. Four Sony FX3 bodies, each with its own serial. A production books two from Friday 10:00 to Monday 10:00 at a weekend rate, pays a $500 refundable deposit per body, and must sign a liability agreement. One body is returned with a damaged LCD; you keep $180 and refund the rest.
Sales Igniter. The product uses the date-and-time calendar with serial inventory enabled and four serials entered (serials). The Pro deposit add-on collects two deposits as their own line because “Multiply by quantity” is ticked (product deposit settings). The contract is signed on the checkout page with a pad or typed name and the PDF lands on the order (contracts). Staff pick the two serials on the Send page, scan them back on the Return page, then use WooCommerce’s refund tool to return $320 on one deposit line and the full $500 on the other; the retained $180 stays on the order as revenue (refunding deposits).
Tyche. The product uses the Multiple Days & Time booking type with Maximum Bookings set to 4. Weekend pricing comes from special prices for weekdays. Deposits need the Enterprise tier’s Partial Deposits addon, whose “Security Deposit” is documented as an extra flat amount added once per booking, so a per-body deposit and any refund or partial retention would be handled by hand through WooCommerce refunds. There is no serial to select on dispatch and no signature step in the documentation, so the agreement is a separate e-signature tool or a paper form.
Practical difference. Sales Igniter keeps the whole event — which body, which deposit, which signature — on one order. On Tyche the booking is recorded; the rental bookkeeping happens elsewhere.
Needs hands-on testing. Whether Tyche’s Maximum Bookings of 4 is consumed by a cart quantity of 2 or counts the order as one booking; whether a Friday 10:00 to Monday 10:00 selection also blocks Monday afternoon. Scenario 2: a tool-hire depot with twelve breaker hammers and a cleaning day
Situation. Twelve identical breakers rented by the day. A contractor books two from Tuesday 08:00 to Thursday 17:00. Every unit needs one day of cleaning and testing before it can go out again. Four more contractors book across the same week. On Thursday the first customer phones: he needs them until Saturday.
Sales Igniter. Inventory by quantity, 12 units, buffer after set to one day so each return is reserved through Friday (buffer time). Daily and weekly rates with pro-rated pricing. The extension is done by the customer from My Account, “with the price recalculated automatically”, or by editing the order’s rental dates in the admin (feature list). The inventory report shows how many of the twelve are free on each day of the week including the cleaning holds.
Tyche. Multiple Nights type with Maximum Bookings 12 per date, Flat Charge per day from the Rental System Addon so Thursday is billed, and “Book later days of end date” set to 1 for the cleaning day. The addon docs say those prior and later days are disabled once the date’s lockout is reached, not per booking — so with 12 units the cleaning day is only blocked when all 12 are out on the same date. Customers can reschedule from My Account (product page), which covers the extension.
Practical difference. The buffer semantics. A per-date buffer that only triggers at full lockout means a depot running at 60% utilisation gets no cleaning protection at all; a per-booking buffer removes each returned unit from stock for the day it needs.
Needs hands-on testing. Exactly how Tyche’s later-days block interacts with partial lockout on the Multiple Nights type, and whether the reschedule tool re-checks availability against other contractors’ bookings. Scenario 3: an AV company renting a PA kit as a bundle for a December conference
Situation. A “Conference PA kit” sold as one product: one mixer, two powered speakers, four wired microphones. You also rent the same speakers and microphones individually. A client books the kit plus six extra wireless packs for a three-day conference on 9-11 December, your peak month, priced 25% above normal.
Sales Igniter. The kit is a WooCommerce Product Bundle or Composite Product; support was added in 1.0.50 and each component draws its own rental stock, so the two speakers inside the kit and the loose speakers on the shelf are the same inventory (changelog). Holiday pricing adds +25% for a 1-31 December date range that repeats yearly (settings). Deposits on bundles are collected for the items inside them (feature list).
Tyche. The pricing page states compatibility with Bundle and Composite products; the docs we found do not describe whether a bundled bookable product decrements each component’s Maximum Bookings or only the bundle’s own. The December uplift is a named season in the Seasonal Pricing addon with a percentage adjustment and a yearly repeat.
Practical difference. Whether kit stock and loose stock are the same pool. If they are not, the kit sells while the loose speakers are already out.

Strengths and tradeoffs, honestly
Calendar look and feel. Sales Igniter 1.0.61 adds a guided rental date picker and a Calendar Styler under Rentals › Settings: choose between a guided step-by-step picker (date, then time, then return date and time), a pop-up version of it, or classic separate start and end fields, then set the accent colour, corner radius, time-slot interval, field labels, and whether the calendar shows units left and prices per day, all with a live preview of the real product calendar. Tyche’s Appearance settings cover a jQuery UI calendar theme, language, date and time formats and field labels, which is a useful set, but there is no guided flow, no colour or radius control and no preview.
Where Tyche Booking & Appointment is stronger
- Scheduling breadth. Six booking types, staff and room resources, person types, “requires confirmation”, customer rescheduling and cancellation windows, and availability shown in the customer’s time zone.
- Calendar and CRM integrations. Two-way Google Calendar sync on every tier; Outlook, Zoom, Zapier and FluentCRM on Enterprise. Sales Igniter documents one-way ICS export only.
- Marketplaces. Dokan, WC Vendors and WCFM integrations on Business. Sales Igniter does not document a marketplace integration.
- Multi-store licensing and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Five stores on Business, ten on Enterprise.
- Release cadence and tooling. HPOS compatibility since v5.17.0, checkout-block work in v8.0.0, and v8.6.0 adds AI abilities for MCP clients (changelog).
Where Sales Igniter is stronger
- The rental workflow is native. Serials, barcodes, send and return, early send and early return, picklists, and the by-day inventory report are in the base licence.
- Deposits that come back. A refundable deposit line with full or partial refund through the gateway and scheduled release, rather than a partial payment.
- Contracts in the checkout. Signed PDF on the order, no third-party e-signature service.
- Kits. Bundles and composites with per-component rental stock and per-component deposits.

Verified Sales Igniter limitations
- Multi-location inventory and multi-store setups are listed as “would need customization” on the feature list.
- No documented two-way calendar sync, Zoom, Zapier, staff resources, person types, or customer-time-zone display.
- HPOS and WooCommerce checkout-block compatibility are not called out in the public changelog — ask before buying if you rely on either.
- Card authorisation holds are not documented for either product. Sales Igniter deposits are charged and refunded; Tyche’s are charged as part of the booking payment.
- A licence key is entered on installation. Sales Igniter states the plugin keeps working if support is not renewed; the install doc does not spell that out, so ask if it matters to you.
Comparable cost for the camera-hire workflow
The workflow is Scenario 1: dated, timed bookings with quantity availability, a turnaround buffer, refundable deposits and a signed agreement, on one store. Assumptions: USD; one production site; prices as read on 7 September 2026; Tyche’s buffer and seasonal functions taken at Business tier and deposits at Enterprise, per its pricing page; Sales Igniter’s coupon codes applied at checkout. Neither total includes an e-signature service for Tyche or any custom development, because neither is priced by the vendors.

If your workflow does not need deposits or contracts, the honest comparison is Sales Igniter Regular against Tyche Starter, and the gap narrows to $199 once versus $199 a year. Switching from Tyche to Sales Igniter: what to plan for
- Products. Both plugins store booking settings as product meta, and the meta is different. Tyche has a CSV export of booking settings; Sales Igniter imports rental products by CSV. Expect to map fields by hand, and to enter serials for the first time.
- Future reservations. Bookings already taken on Tyche do not become Sales Igniter reservations. Re-create them with the manual reserve-inventory tool so the calendar is right on day one, and run Tyche in parallel until they have all gone out.
- Historical orders. They are WooCommerce orders in your database either way and stay readable; only the booking-specific meta is plugin-specific.
- Pricing. Tyche special prices, price ranges and seasons translate to Sales Igniter day/week/month rates, length discounts and holiday pricing, but not automatically. Rebuild the price list and check three sample bookings against last year’s invoices.
- Availability. Decide per product whether it becomes quantity or serial inventory, and set the buffer before you open the calendar — it changes what customers can select.
- Nothing is promised. There is no migration tool between the two products. Budget an afternoon per hundred products and a staging site.
Frequently asked questions
Is Tyche’s “Security Deposit” the same as a refundable security deposit?
Not as documented. The Partial Deposits addon’s security deposit is an extra flat amount added once per booking and charged with it. The documentation does not describe releasing or partly retaining it, so refunds would go through WooCommerce’s standard refund by hand. Tyche also sells a separate Deposits for WooCommerce plugin, but that is a partial-payment tool (pay part now, balance later), which is a different capability again.
Does the Rental System Addon cost extra?
We could not settle this from the vendor’s site. The addon has its own docs and product page with no price shown, while the pricing page lists its functions under the Business tier. Ask Tyche which tier includes it before you compare totals.
Can Sales Igniter do hourly rentals and staff-style resources?
Hourly, yes: date-and-time calendars with per-hour pricing and buffers are in the base licence. Staff or room resources with their own availability are a Tyche feature that Sales Igniter does not document.
Which is better for a WooCommerce marketplace with several vendors?
Tyche, on the documentation: Dokan, WC Vendors and WCFM integrations are named Business-tier features. Sales Igniter has no published marketplace integration.
Does either plugin keep working if I stop paying?
Both say yes. Tyche’s FAQ states plugins continue functioning after the licence expires, without updates or support. Sales Igniter’s support and updates renewal is optional and the source code is yours. The difference is that Sales Igniter’s first payment is the whole price of the software, while Tyche’s is the first year of a subscription.
Is this comparison independent?
