Deposits & Damage Waiver Release Notes

Release notes for Deposits & Damage Waiver, the optional extension that adds refundable security deposits and damage waivers to a rental order. Deposits & Damage Waiver Extension 1.0.1 Released September 17, 2026 #

• New featureFirst release of salesigniter/waiverdamage, an optional extension that adds refundable security deposits and damage waivers to a rental order. It is included with Rental Booking Pro, and requires version 1.2.197 or later of the rental extension
• New featureSecurity deposits. Charged with the order so that they can be refunded, on their own line, not taxed by default. Priced as a flat amount, a percentage of the rental charge or an amount per day, optionally per unit rather than per line, with a minimum and a maximum
• New featureReleasing a deposit from the order page. Give the whole balance back, or give part of it back and keep the rest against damage or a late return. Keeping any of it requires a reason, which is stored on the order rather than left to somebody’s memory
• New featureOr release it on a schedule – a set number of days after the hire comes back, counted from the return or from the order date. The automatic release only ever fires once every unit on the order has been returned; anything still out, overdue or lost keeps its deposit until a person decides
• New featureDamage waivers on the product page. Offered as mandatory, optional and pre-ticked, optional and unticked, or not at all. Priced as a percentage of the rental charge or a flat amount per item, per day or per order. It is revenue, so it is taxable by default, has its own tax class, and is non-refundable unless you allow refunds
• New featureThe customer is shown the rule rather than a figure – "10% of the rental charge" – because on a percentage waiver the amount is not knowable until the hire dates are picked. The accept or decline decision is recorded on the order and survives admin order edit, reorder, a request for quote and extending a live hire
• New featurePer-product overrides on the product’s Rental group: deposit type, waiver type and how the waiver is offered. Each defaults to Use config and follows the store setting. Setting one to None is different – the product actively opts out and does not fall back, which is how a hire whose damage risk is covered elsewhere escapes a charge the shop applies everywhere else
• ChangeThe rental extension’s old Use Global Config for Damage Waiver Amount switch is superseded by the new waiver type attribute. Every product is migrated once on upgrade, and the migration only fills in products that have no value of their own, so a deliberate choice is never overwritten
• Upgrade noteInstalling the extension changes nothing on your existing orders: the deposit panel renders only on an order that actually has a deposit
• Upgrade noteA refund the gateway keeps refusing stops after a configurable number of attempts and is parked for a human, rather than being retried forever
• Known limitationA damage waiver limits what a customer owes for accidental damage under your hire contract. It is not insurance, the default product-page wording says so, and selling insurance is regulated in most countries. Note also that an optional paid extra that arrives pre-ticked is restricted for consumer sales in the EU and the UK – that mode is there for shops hiring to trade customers
