Deposits & Damage Waiver Release Notes

Release notes for Deposits & Damage Waiver, the optional extension that adds refundable security deposits and damage waivers to a rental order. It is included with Rental Booking Pro and requires version 1.2.206 or later of the rental extension. For the rental extension itself, see the Magento 2 rental release notes.

Deposits & Damage Waiver Extension 1.1.1 Released October 5, 2026 #

• New featureThe security deposit waits for the balance. With booking deposits (Rental 1.2.213), a booking’s security deposit is not released while its balance is still owed, neither automatically nor from the order’s deposit panel; the automatic release tries again later. Paying or waiving the balance lets it go
• ChangeTranslations completed in every language; text that is not translated yet shows in English
• ChangeRelease downloads no longer include tests and developer notes
• Upgrade noteWorks with version 1.2.206 or later of the rental extension; holding the deposit for an unpaid balance needs 1.2.213

Deposits & Damage Waiver Extension 1.1.0 Released September 28, 2026 #

• New featureOne security deposit per order. Charge a single deposit for the whole order, a fixed amount or a percentage of the rental, instead of one per product. Products with their own deposit keep charging it per line
• New featureUse Global Deposit. A new checkbox on the product, ticked by default, takes over from the deposit type’s Use config choice. Untick it to give a product its own deposit type and amount. Existing products keep charging exactly what they charged before
• New featureKeep part of a deposit. The retain form has a new Amount To Keep box: enter the amount to keep and a reason, and the rest is refunded in the same step. Left empty, it keeps the whole deposit, as before
• New featureHold the deposit on the card instead of charging it (authorize only), for payment methods you choose that support partial capture and void. Keeping part captures only that amount; releasing removes the hold. A hold is charged, or released if you prefer, a day before the card authorisation runs out, and a rental that ends too late for a hold is charged as before
• New featureSecurity Deposits grid under Rentals, filterable by status, order, customer, amounts and dates, with its own permission, View Security Deposits
• New featureMy Security Deposits in the customer account, and deposit details on the customer and guest order pages. Works on Luma and Hyvä
• New featureDeposit emails. "Deposit released" and "deposit kept" emails to the customer, with an on/off switch, a sender setting and editable templates
• ChangeFixed: the Security Deposit and Damage Waiver rows were missing from the cart and checkout order summary on Luma, and on Hyvä stores that use the Luma checkout. The amounts were always in the order total
• ChangeFixed: a store that removed the old Security Deposits add-on without removing its data could not open the product edit page. Running bin/magento setup:upgrade now repairs it
• ChangeAll the new text is translated into the 19 languages. German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Polish now use a clearer word for a Held deposit, which used to read the same as Retained
• Upgrade noteEvery new feature is off until you switch it on under Stores > Configuration > Sales Igniter > Rental > Refundable Security Deposits, so upgrading changes nothing by itself. Run bin/magento setup:upgrade: it adds new columns to the order tables
• Upgrade noteAn admin role with limited permissions does not get View Security Deposits automatically. Add it under System > User Roles for that role to see the grid
• Known limitationA hold on the card needs a payment method that can capture part of an authorisation and then void the rest. Only the methods you add to the list are used, and any other method is charged as before. Test your gateway in its sandbox before turning holds on

Deposits & Damage Waiver Extension 1.0.2 Released September 24, 2026 #

• New featureUninstall support. bin/magento module:uninstall --remove-data now removes the three per-product deposit and waiver overrides, the deposit and waiver columns on the quote, order, invoice, credit memo and order grid tables, and the extension’s settings, scheduled jobs and permissions. The amounts already charged stay in the order totals. See Uninstall or Disable
• New featureTranslations. The extension’s text ships in 19 languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Chinese (Simplified), Hindi, Arabic, Russian, Turkish, Romanian, Polish, Japanese and Korean, plus Swiss German, French and Italian
• ChangeThe automatic release date of a deposit on the order page now follows the Rental Date Output setting, like every other rental date on the order
• ChangeThe separate version row is gone from the extension’s settings group. Its version is listed in the one Sales Igniter Version row the rental extension shows for every installed Sales Igniter extension

Deposits & Damage Waiver Extension 1.0.1 Released September 17, 2026 #

• New featureFirst release of salesigniter/waiverdamage, an optional extension that adds refundable security deposits and damage waivers to a rental order. It is included with Rental Booking Pro, and requires version 1.2.197 or later of the rental extension
• New featureSecurity deposits. Charged with the order so that they can be refunded, on their own line, not taxed by default. Priced as a flat amount, a percentage of the rental charge or an amount per day, optionally per unit rather than per line, with a minimum and a maximum
• New featureReleasing a deposit from the order page. Give the whole balance back, or give part of it back and keep the rest against damage or a late return. Keeping any of it requires a reason, which is stored on the order rather than left to somebody’s memory
• New featureOr release it on a schedule – a set number of days after the hire comes back, counted from the return or from the order date. The automatic release only ever fires once every unit on the order has been returned; anything still out, overdue or lost keeps its deposit until a person decides
• New featureDamage waivers on the product page. Offered as mandatory, optional and pre-ticked, optional and unticked, or not at all. Priced as a percentage of the rental charge or a flat amount per item, per day or per order. It is revenue, so it is taxable by default, has its own tax class, and is non-refundable unless you allow refunds
• New featureThe customer is shown the rule rather than a figure – "10% of the rental charge" – because on a percentage waiver the amount is not knowable until the hire dates are picked. The accept or decline decision is recorded on the order and survives admin order edit, reorder, a request for quote and extending a live hire
• New featurePer-product overrides on the product’s Rental group: deposit type, waiver type and how the waiver is offered. Each defaults to Use config and follows the store setting. Setting one to None is different – the product actively opts out and does not fall back, which is how a hire whose damage risk is covered elsewhere escapes a charge the shop applies everywhere else
• ChangeThe rental extension’s old Use Global Config for Damage Waiver Amount switch is superseded by the new waiver type attribute. Every product is migrated once on upgrade, and the migration only fills in products that have no value of their own, so a deliberate choice is never overwritten
• Upgrade noteInstalling the extension changes nothing on your existing orders: the deposit panel renders only on an order that actually has a deposit
• Upgrade noteA refund the gateway keeps refusing stops after a configurable number of attempts and is parked for a human, rather than being retried forever
• Known limitationA damage waiver limits what a customer owes for accidental damage under your hire contract. It is not insurance, the default product-page wording says so, and selling insurance is regulated in most countries. Note also that an optional paid extra that arrives pre-ticked is restricted for consumer sales in the EU and the UK – that mode is there for shops hiring to trade customers
