Installing Subscriptions & Memberships

2 min read

Subscriptions & Memberships adds recurring billing to a Magento 2 store. Customers subscribe to a product on a billing plan you define, the store charges the saved payment method on each renewal and creates an ordinary Magento order for every cycle. The same extension sells memberships (store credit each period, a customer group, rental queue slots) and, on stores that run our Rental Booking extension, runs a rental queue for “send me the next title” businesses. Everything is managed from a new Subscriptions menu in the admin, and customers manage their own plans in My Account. It works on Luma and on Hyvä, and its API is GraphQL only.

This page covers what you need and how to install it. The other pages in this section cover the day-to-day work.

What is in the package #

The extension is released as separate Composer packages, so a store installs only what it uses.

Renewals are charged by the off-session payment layer in salesigniter/releasecommon2 (version 1.2.58 or later), which Composer installs for you.

Before you install #

  • Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce 2.4.x with PHP 8.2, 8.3 or 8.4. The extension is tested on Magento 2.4.9.
  • Magento cron must be running. Renewals are scheduled work: every five minutes a dispatcher picks up the renewals that are due and queues them. Without cron nothing renews. Cron should run every minute, or at least every few minutes.
  • The message queue consumer sisubscriptionsRenewal places the renewal orders. Magento’s own consumer runner starts it with cron. A store that runs no consumers can turn on Process renewals inside cron instead (see Setting up subscriptions).
  • A payment method that can charge again later. Cards saved with Braintree, Mollie, Adyen, Stripe or Authorize.Net / CyberSource (ParadoxLabs) renew automatically. Offline methods such as Check / Money order also work: each renewal creates an order that waits for payment.
  • Your Subscriptions & Memberships licence key. Once you are logged in, the Install section below shows the Composer commands for it.

Install #

Log in with the account that bought the licence: the box below then shows the commands for your licence, with your licence key as the Composer password. Run them in your Magento root, and require only the packages from the table above that your store needs.

Please log in to view installation instructions.

When this succeeds you see a Subscriptions entry in the admin menu, and a new Subscriptions & memberships section on every product’s edit page.

Check that renewals will run #

Under Stores > Configuration > Sales Igniter > Subscriptions > General, Warn when renewals have not run for (hours) controls an admin notice that appears when the renewal dispatcher has not run for that long, so a stopped cron does not go unnoticed. The default is 2 hours.

You can also open Subscriptions > Renewals Log. A renewal is listed there as Scheduled until it is due, then Succeeded or Failed.
