Rental Contracts Release Notes

Release notes for Rental Contracts (salesigniter/releaserentalcontract2), the add-on that has customers sign your rental agreement at checkout, or lets staff record a signature on the order, and keeps the signed contract as a PDF with its signing evidence. It is included with Rental Booking Pro. See Rental Contracts for how it works, and the Rental Booking (Core) Release Notes for the rental extension itself.

Version 1.2.64 Released September 24, 2026 #

• Fix"No signature" now means no signature. Choosing it under Signature methods offered hid both ways of signing but still demanded a signature, so no order could be placed. Now the signing card is not shown, orders are placed without a signature, and no contract record is written for them
• ChangeNew default contract terms that name nobody. The shipped terms named another business and a US state’s law. The new default is general rental terms that fill in your store’s name, address and governing law from Store Information, and still read properly when a detail is not filled in. Terms you saved yourself are kept. New placeholders: {{var store_name}}, {{var store_address}}, {{var store_region}}, {{var store_country}}, {{var governing_law}} and {{var order_number}}. A detail that is not set is now empty, never the word "None". See Placeholders
• FixLine breaks in the terms are kept exactly as typed, in the terms box at checkout and in the PDF, and the same goes for the header and footer text. The checkout used to run the lines together. A <br>, 
 or typed \n added to force a break now becomes a real line break instead of being printed; any other HTML is shown as text
• Fix"Include list of items in the contract" works. Set to Disable, the PDF leaves the list of rented items out. The setting used to be ignored
• FixThe five label settings now label the signing card at checkout: Type Tab Heading, Draw Tab Heading, Print Name Heading, Type Review Heading and Draw Review Heading. Left empty, the card keeps its built-in wording. The old defaults many stores still hold ("Type It", "Draw Signature" and so on) were never shown anywhere, so they count as empty
• ChangeNo contract pages in My Account. The storefront signing page and the unused My Account contract code are removed. Customers sign at checkout; staff can record a signature with Sign Contract on the order. The PDF attached to the order email is the customer’s copy
• ImprovementStaff get the signed copy. View Signed Contract on the order opens the PDF stored when the contract was signed, after checking its fingerprint (SHA-256) against the one on record. An order with no stored copy shows View Contract (preview) and gets a freshly generated copy. If the stored file is missing or has been changed, nothing is shown in its place: the order page shows an error and the problem is logged
• FixThe contract PDF can be generated for an order whose shopping cart Magento has already cleared away. It used to fail with an error
• New featureUninstall support. bin/magento module:uninstall --remove-data now removes the contract tables, the signature columns on the quote and order tables, the contract settings and permissions. Signed PDFs in pub/media are kept. See Uninstall or Disable
• Upgrade noteRequires version 1.2.206 or later of the rental extension

Version 1.2.62 Released September 21, 2026 #

• New featureSignatures that hold up if they are ever disputed. Each signature is stored with what the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation look for: the consent wording the customer agreed to, word for word; the terms exactly as shown, with their fingerprint (SHA-256); when they signed, by the server’s clock and by the browser’s; the IP address and browser; and fingerprints of the signature and of the PDF before and after signing
• New featureAn audit trail that shows tampering. Every step is logged in a hash-chained trail, so removing or editing an entry breaks every hash after it. The order page checks the trail, the stored terms and the stored PDF each time it opens
• New featureA signing certificate page can be added to the signed PDF, listing who signed, when, from where, the consent wording and the document fingerprints. The signed PDF is generated once and stored, and the order email attaches that same file
• ImprovementA rebuilt signing card. Type or draw, with a consent tick box; every control works from the keyboard, and on a phone drawing no longer scrolls the page. A name the handwriting font cannot draw, such as one in Devanagari script, is set in a plain font instead of empty boxes. Several outdated signature libraries, including a Flash fallback and a second copy of jQuery, are gone
• FixSecurity fixes. The checkout and the order page now check who is asking and what they send before accepting a signature or serving a contract PDF, and the signature and consent are verified on the server before an order is created. Every store using Rental Contracts should update
• Upgrade noteFour new admin permissions, under Sales > Rental Contracts in the role resources. The Administrators role has them; a custom role needs them ticked, or its users lose View Contract and Sign Contract. See Staff permissions
• ChangeThe separate version row is gone from the extension’s settings group. Its version is listed in the one Sales Igniter Version row the rental extension shows for every installed Sales Igniter extension
