When you make an order in wp-admin (a phone booking, a quote turned into an order), the customer pays it on its payment page. From Contract Signing 1.1.8 they sign the rental contract first, in the same visit.
Send to sign and pay #
- Make the order as usual and leave it Pending payment.
- In the Rental Contract box, click Send to sign and pay and confirm.
- The customer receives “Please sign and pay for your booking (order #1234)” with a Read, sign and pay button.
- They read the contract, sign it and press Sign and continue to payment: the payment page opens.
- Once they pay, the order goes through as any paid order. The signed PDF was emailed to them when they signed.
The box shows Waiting for signature and payment until they sign.

The payment page waits for the signature #
With Sign before paying on (Rentals > Settings > Contracts, on by default), a rental order with no signed contract cannot be paid until the customer signs. This is true however they reach the page: the “Pay for this order” link in a WooCommerce invoice email, the link you copy from the order, or My Account > Orders > Pay.
Instead of the payment form, the page says “Sign the rental contract first. Once it is signed, you can pay for your booking here.” with a Sign now button. Signing brings them back to pay. The same check stops a payment on the block payment page and through express payment buttons.

Never held back:
- orders placed at the checkout (they are signed there);
- payments for another order: a booking deposit’s balance, an extension, a late fee or a damage charge;
- any order while “Signature required for checkout” in your Contracts settings is “None”.
Turn Sign before paying off to let customers pay first and sign later from a link you send them.
With a booking deposit #
With Rentals & Bookings Regular 1.0.85, the booking deposit of an unpaid order is worked out again before the contract is shown, so the contract states what the customer pays today and later. If the balance date has passed by then, or the booking deposit no longer applies to the order, the customer pays the full total.
